2009 & 2010 Classes, Clubs, and Groups
Friends of Children in Therapy, an all volunteer not-for-profit organization, provides support for some of the following programs and services through fundraisers and private and corporate donations. They are conducted by the Education Department of Arlington Pediatric Therapy Management Services. Classes are open to all children, with and without special needs. Some classes are offered year round; all have been offered at least once. The Education Department strives to offer a class or activity for each age group at any given time. SUPPORT GROUP FOR KIDS Provides students with physical disabilities the opportunity to meet other students facing similar challenges. INFANT MASSAGE A class for pre-walkers teaching the techniques which augment the important early bonding of parents and their child. BABY BOOSTERS A small developmental playgroup for children 0-3. SOCIAL SKILLS CLASSES/SOCIAL GROUPS Programs addressing various aspects of social development for students ages 4 to young adults. SPECIAL SIBS A four to six week program for brothers and sisters of children with special sibs. TIME & MONEY SKILLS An eight week program for ages 6 to young adult addressing functional time-telling and money skills. CREATIVE MOVEMENT & DANCE CLASS Ages 5 and up. This fun and exciting class facilitates gross motor movements to music. Ballet, tap and modern dance techniques and terminology are used. For all ability levels. TEEN GAME CLUB A six week program for teens, offering a chance to meet new people, learn new games and have some fun. TEEN DREAMS BOWLING CLUB A six to eight week program offered at a suburban bowling alley for ages 13 and up. TEEN DREAMS SPECIAL EVENTS Social activities for teens in the community. FLOURISH IN THE FOOTLIGHTS ACTING CLASS
Partnering with the education department of the Metropolis Theatre in Arlington Heights, a theater techniques class/workshop for ages 13 and up. An additional 16-week course is offered which culminates in the production of a performance on stage at the Metropolis. INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENTAL THERAPY/EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT Individualized support for children. EVENING PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS An ongoing support group offered the 2nd Wednesday of each month. INDIVIDUAL PARENT SUPPORT Support offered to parents pertaining to a vast array of topics/concerns regarding their child with special needs (e.g. behavioral management, educational concerns, questions regarding IFSP or IEP, emotional support, etc.) PARENT PROGRAMS Programs offered throughout the year pertaining to a variety of topics of interest (e.g. communicating with school personnel, legal rights, behavioral management, toilet training, etc.) RELATIONSHIPS CLASSA variation of this class is typically offered each year in the spring. The class is for individuals with special needs, age 15 and up. The class covers a wide variety of information pertaining to feelings, friendships, relationships and sexuality. The class is a wonderful opportunity for teens and young adults with special needs to learn and share about such topics. LET’S PLAY PLAYGROUPS An 8-week program for 3-5 year olds, addressing play skills and social interactions.
